“On 31 August, the School of Knowledge Exchange of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, together with the Hong Kong Mental Wellness Association (HKMWA), Cheng Ka-ho Sha Tin District Councilor’s Office, the Greater Bay Area Professional Development Association, and the Future Intelligence Related Skills and Training Hub (FIRST Hub) of HSUHK, held a seminar on adolescent mental health and effective communication methods.

Dr. Ko Wing-man, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Mr. Cheng Yi-man, Assistant District Officer of Sha Tin; Mr. Yu Jian-wen, Deputy Director of the New Territories Affairs Division of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R.; and Mr. Law Man-sang, Chairman of the Siu Lek Yuen Area Committee of Sha Tin District, were invited to participate in the event. President Ho Shun-man emphasized that Hang Seng University attaches great importance to the “liberal arts + professional” education model, cares about students’ emotional well-being, and called on teachers and students to support each other.

Dr. Ko Wing-man urged all sectors of society to collaborate in addressing the emotional challenges confronting young people. He noted that while the demand for mental health services is escalating, the availability of psychiatric resources remains insufficient. Dr. Ko compared the complexity of youth mental health issues to that of a multifaceted examination.

Dr. May Lam, Founding President of the Hong Kong Mental Wellness Association (HKMWA), emphasized the uniqueness of each child and the necessity of addressing their individual needs. She advocated for reducing stress on adolescents, enabling them to explore their personal interests.

Looking ahead, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong will collaborate with the Greater Bay Area Professional Development Association and the Hong Kong Mental Wellness Association to offer a free “Basic Certificate Course on Youth Crisis Identification and Management” during the 2024/25 academic year. The seminar concluded with world-class athletes sharing their personal experiences with emotional challenges, encouraging students to confront their own emotional struggles proactively.”
